What is CSA?

CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a program where individuals, families, friends, co-workers, ect. pay a farm up front for the produce to be grown that year, which helps the farm so it does not have to take out a loan to grow for the season. In return you get a box every week during the summer and fall filled with fresh produce grown on that farm. The period of time varies from farm to farm, but it is generally 20-26 weeks.

Why do CSA?

There are many reasons why CSA's are great programs to get involved with:

  • It keeps fresh produce in the house on a regular basis. It is easy not to eat as much fruits and vegetables as recommended. With CSA the produce is in your home every week making it more accessible.
  • It provides you with fresh produce, some of which is rarely seen in most super markets.
  • You know exactly where your produce is coming from and that it is fresh.
  • CSA helps the enviornment. By picking up a box of fresh produce every week you are reducing the amount of trips to the store, which in turn reduces the amount of gasoline and air pollution.
  • It helps the farm because they do not have to take out a large loan to grow for the year.
  • Did I mention the produce is fresh? Our produce is harvested the day before you receive it and driven less than 70 miles as opposed to across the country.
  • We grow over 70 different fruits and vegetable varieties that will go into your CSA boxes.
  • You learn about the produce and how it is grown as well as some great ways to prepare them.
